Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Can Aliş

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Can Aliş is a radiology specialist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Radiology unit. His professional interests include magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), CT colonography and virtual colonoscopy, virtual angiography, and tomography. He has more than 15 years in medicine and holds the academic title of associate professor.

Dr. Aliş graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2013 and completed his radiology training at the same faculty in 2018. In 2011, he spent time at the University of California, San Diego, Division of Nephrology, Department of Pediatrics, working with Robert Mak, M.D., Ph.D. From 2018 he worked as a specialist doctor at Mehmet Akif Ersoy Cardiovascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital, and in 2020 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. He is a member of the Türk Manyetik Rezonans Association, the European Society of Breast Radiology, the Turkish Society of Radiology, and the European Society of Radiology.

Clinical focus

Dr. Aliş works with cross-sectional imaging methods that are used to evaluate a wide range of conditions. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses a magnetic field and radio waves rather than ionizing radiation to produce detailed images of soft tissues, organs and joints. Computed tomography (CT) and tomography use X-rays to create cross-sectional images of the body, and CT is frequently used when a rapid or detailed anatomical assessment is needed. In both modalities, the radiologist’s role is to select an appropriate protocol, interpret the images and report the findings to the referring physician.

A further area of interest is CT colonography, also known as virtual colonoscopy, in which CT images of the large bowel are reconstructed to allow the colon to be examined without inserting an endoscope. Dr. Aliş also has an interest in virtual angiography, a technique in which imaging data are reconstructed to display blood vessels in a non-invasive way. Whether a particular imaging study is suitable depends on the individual patient’s clinical question, previous examinations and general health, and is decided in discussion with the referring physician.

How Dr. Aliş works with international patients

Dr. Aliş consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit.
