Didem Çevik Gündoğan, MD

Didem Çevik Gündoğan, MD is a pediatrician at the Acibadem Bağdat Outpatient Clinic in İstanbul, where she works in the Pediatrics unit. Her practice centers on the everyday health of infants and children, from routine well-child follow-up and the assessment of growth and nutrition to the diagnosis and management of common childhood infections. Dr. Gündoğan studied medicine at Ege University Faculty of Medicine between 1991 and 1997. She then completed her specialty training in Child Health and Diseases at İzmir Dr. Behçet Uz Pediatric Diseases Training and Research Hospital in 2003. From 2003 to 2004 she worked at Behçet Uz Pediatric Diseases and Surgery Training and Research Hospital, and from 2004 to 2007 at Özel Göztepe Şafak Hospital. Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Gündoğan’s work is well-child follow-up: periodic examinations in which a child’s growth, weight gain, feeding and general development are reviewed and any concerns raised by parents are discussed. Within this framework she evaluates childhood growth disorders and childhood nutritional disorders, including iron deficiency and anemia in children. In infants, she assesses common feeding-related complaints such as lactose intolerance, infant colic and gas pain, and advises families on how these can be managed.

Her practice also covers pediatric infectious diseases. She sees children with upper respiratory tract infections, croup and chickenpox, and evaluates recurrent fever patterns such as PFAPA syndrome. Assessment usually begins with the child’s history and a clinical examination; depending on the findings, laboratory tests may be requested, and treatment and follow-up are planned according to the child’s age, symptoms and general condition.

How Dr. Gündoğan works with international patients

Dr. Gündoğan consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports, for example laboratory results, imaging reports and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the visit to the clinic. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing test results and previous treatments, a clinical examination, and a discussion of the possible options and follow-up. Video consultations are available for international patients who wish to discuss their child’s situation with Dr. Gündoğan before traveling or as part of follow-up.
