Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dilek Hacer Çeşme

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dilek Hacer Çeşme is a radiologist at Acibadem Kozyatagi Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Radiology unit. She has more than 28 years in medicine, and her clinical work centers on diagnostic imaging, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), X-ray imaging and virtual angiography, with particular interests in cardiac imaging and musculoskeletal radiology.

Dr. Çeşme graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1998 and completed her radiology training at Bakırköy Dr. Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital in 2012. From 2016 to 2022 she worked as a Specialist Doctor at Bezmialem University Faculty of Medicine, and from 2022 to 2023 she served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Radiology at Bezmialem Vakıf University. She joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2023. She is a member of TTB, the Turkish Radiology Association and TMRD. Her published work includes studies on diffusion tensor imaging of intracranial lesions in tuberous sclerosis, the evaluation of anterior thalamic radiation in children with neurofibromatosis type-1, cervical spinal trauma, and Doppler ultrasound and magnetic resonance angiography findings in vertigo cases.

Clinical focus

Dr. Çeşme’s areas of expertise cover the main cross-sectional and projectional imaging methods used in diagnostic radiology. She reports magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) examinations, as well as conventional X-ray imaging. Virtual angiography, a non-invasive way of visualizing blood vessels from CT or MRI data, is also within her field of work. In cardiac imaging, she evaluates the heart and related structures using these modalities, and in musculoskeletal radiology she assesses imaging of bones, joints and soft tissues.

Her research interests, reflected in her publications, include diffusion tensor imaging of the brain in tuberous sclerosis and neurofibromatosis type-1, imaging of cervical spinal trauma, and the use of Doppler ultrasound and magnetic resonance angiography in the assessment of vertigo. In clinical practice, the choice of imaging method depends on the clinical question, the patient’s history and any previous examinations, and findings are interpreted together with the referring clinician.

How Dr. Çeşme works with international patients

Dr. Çeşme consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination where relevant, and a discussion of which imaging examinations may be appropriate. Video consultation is available for international patients, which can be used to review existing images and reports and to discuss whether further imaging is needed.
