Assoc. Prof. Ece Orhon, MD

Assoc. Prof. Ece Orhon, MD is a psychiatrist in the Psychiatry & Psychology unit at Acibadem Bağdat Outpatient Clinic in İstanbul. She graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1974 and trained as an assistant physician in the Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine Department of Psychiatry from 1974 to 1978, completing her specialty training in Mental Health and Diseases in 1978. In 1985 she became an Associate Professor in the Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. She has more than 52 years of experience in medicine.

Dr. Orhon worked as a specialist physician in the Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine Department of Psychiatry from 1978 to 1980. Between 1979 and 1985 she worked at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, including as a psychiatry specialist in its Health, Culture and Sports Department from 1980 to 1985. From 1986 to 2000 she served as psychiatry consultant physician at Bilkent University, and from 1991 to 1995 she was a psychiatry specialist at the Zekai Tahir Burak Maternity Home Menopause Clinic. From 1985 to 2002 she also worked in independent practice (Serbest Muayenehane). In 1982–1983 she was a consultant to the TRT 1 and TRT 2 program Gençlik Saati, and from 1994 to 1998 she was president of the Association for Research and Examination of Women’s Social Life. She joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2002. She is a member of the Turkish Psychiatric Association and the Turkish Medical Association, among other organizations.

Clinical focus

Dr. Orhon evaluates and treats adults with a broad range of psychiatric conditions. Her areas of expertise include anxiety disorders, panic disorder, social and specific phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. She also sees patients with mood disorders, including major depression and bipolar disorder.

Her practice further covers personality disorders, bulimia nervosa, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, atypical psychosis and sleep disorders. Assessment and treatment are individualized according to each patient’s symptoms, history and circumstances.

How Dr. Orhon works with international patients

Dr. Orhon consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports, such as previous psychiatric evaluations, laboratory results, discharge summaries and any relevant imaging, and arranges appointments and the visit to the outpatient clinic. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and current symptoms, a review of previous treatments and existing reports, a clinical assessment and a discussion of the available options. Video consultations are available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation with Dr. Orhon before traveling or as part of follow-up.
