Eda Balanlı Güngörmüş, MD

Eda Balanlı Güngörmüş, MD is a pediatrician at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Pediatrics unit. Dr. Güngörmüş provides well-child follow-up for infants and children, which gives families a regular opportunity to review a child’s progress and raise questions about everyday concerns. A significant part of her work involves problems that are frequent in the first months of life, including infant colic, infant gas pain and neonatal jaundice. She also evaluates and treats childhood constipation, a condition that can affect children of different ages and usually calls for careful assessment before a management plan is agreed with the family.

Her expertise extends to the diagnosis and treatment of childhood infections. This includes upper respiratory tract infections in children as well as the childhood illnesses measles, rubella and chickenpox. In these cases she assesses the child’s symptoms, confirms the diagnosis where possible and advises parents on treatment, home care and follow-up. Her approach is to explain findings in plain terms so that parents understand what is being recommended and why.

How Dr. Güngörmüş works with international patients

Dr. Güngörmüş consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports, such as laboratory results, imaging reports, discharge summaries and records of previous treatments, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and current symptoms, a review of existing results and any earlier treatment, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options with the parents. For families abroad, a video consultation is available as a first step, for example to review a child’s history and existing reports and to discuss whether an in-person visit is advisable. Any recommendations made remotely are provisional until the child has been examined.
