Eda Yüksel, Audiologist

Eda Yüksel is an audiologist at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul, where she works within the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) unit. Her work centers on hearing assessment and the evaluation of hearing loss in both adults and children, with particular interest in audiometry and BERA (ABR) testing. She has more than eight years in medicine.

Eda Yüksel completed her studies at İstanbul Gelişim University School of Health in 2019 and continued her education at İstanbul Gelişim University, finishing in 2021. Her early clinical training included a trainee placement at Özel Reyap Hospital between 2018 and 2019, an internship at İstinye University Hospital in 2019 and an internship at Yeditepe University Hospital in 2021. In 2021 she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services, where she has practised since.

Clinical focus

Her clinical work is focused on the diagnostic side of hearing care. Audiometry is used to measure how well a person hears sounds of different pitches and volumes and forms the basis of most hearing assessments. Eda Yüksel carries out these assessments for adults who notice a change in their hearing, difficulty following conversation or other hearing-related concerns, and she evaluates the type and degree of hearing loss so that the ENT team can consider the next steps.

A second area of her practice is paediatric hearing loss. Assessing hearing in infants and young children requires methods that do not rely on the child responding to instructions, and BERA (ABR) testing is one such method. It records the response of the hearing nerve and brainstem to sound and is used in children as well as in adults when standard audiometry is not sufficient or cannot be performed. Whether any particular treatment is suitable can only be determined after an individual evaluation.

How Eda Yüksel works with international patients

Eda Yüksel speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as earlier hearing tests, MRI or CT reports, laboratory results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing test results and previous treatments, a clinical examination and hearing assessment, and a discussion of the findings and the options that follow from them. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation or review existing results before deciding whether to travel; some diagnostic tests, including audiometry and BERA (ABR) testing, can only be performed in person.
