Assoc. Prof. Emre Bozkurt, MD

Assoc. Prof. Emre Bozkurt, MD is a general surgeon at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Department of Liver, Biliary Tract and Pancreatic Surgery, a position he took up in 2025. He graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2012, having studied in the Prof. Dr. Uğur Derman English Medicine Program, and completed his General Surgery training at Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital General Surgery Clinic between 2013 and 2018.

After compulsory service as a specialist doctor at Kelkit/Gümüşhane State Hospital (2018–2019), he returned to Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital General Surgery Clinic as a specialist doctor (2019–2020). From 2020 to 2025 he worked at Koç University Hospital, General Surgery Clinic, first as a specialist doctor and, from 2023, as an associate professor. His further training abroad has focused on pancreatic and liver surgery: Verona University General and Pancreatic Surgery in Verona, Italy (2020, supervised by Prof. Claudio Bassi); Amsterdam University, Liver and Pancreatic Surgery Clinic, for robotic pancreatic and liver surgery (2022, Prof. Marc Besselink); Poliambulanza Foundation Hospital in Brescia, Italy, for minimally invasive pancreatic and liver surgery (2022, Prof. Muhammed Abu Hilal); and a clinical observership at Ageo Central General Hospital in Ageo, Japan (2024, Prof. Go Wakabayashi). He is a member of the Turkish Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery Association, the International Laparoscopic Liver Surgery Association (ILLS), the World and European Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery Association (IHPBA, E-AHPBA), the European Endoscopic Surgery Association, the International Fluorescence-Guided Surgery Association (ISFGS), the Turkish Surgery Association and the Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgery Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Bozkurt’s clinical work concentrates on diseases of the pancreas, liver and biliary tract. He evaluates and treats patients with pancreatic diseases, liver diseases including fatty liver disease and liver failure, liver cancer, gallbladder cancer, bile duct cancer, cholecystitis and other biliary tract diseases. His surgical practice includes oncological surgery and robotic surgery.

He has co-authored peer-reviewed publications on minimally invasive pancreatic surgery, laparoscopic compared with open liver resection for colorectal liver metastases, recurrence patterns after surgery for bilobar colorectal liver metastases, and techniques for modulating the future liver remnant. Whether a minimally invasive, robotic or open approach is suitable depends on the individual diagnosis, imaging findings and general condition, and is discussed with each patient during consultation.

How Dr. Bozkurt works with international patients

Dr. Bozkurt consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital stay. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the possible options.
