Emre Mırçık, MD

Emre Mırçık, MD is a radiologist in the Radiology unit at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul. He has more than 13 years in medicine, and his work centers on diagnostic imaging, including magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography and ultrasound, as well as CT colonography, virtual colonoscopy and virtual angiography. Dr. Mırçık graduated from Celal Bayar University Faculty of Medicine in 2013 and completed his radiology training at Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine in 2019. His professional experience began at Konya Akşehir Devlet Hospital in 2013, followed by a position at Ağrı Patnos State Hospital in 2019 and, from 2020 to 2021, at Özel Hürrem Sultan Hospital. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2021. He has co-authored peer-reviewed publications, including an article in Neuroradiology (2021) on the use of the THRIVE sequence in the follow-up of patients who received endovascular intracranial aneurysm treatment, and a case report on primary epiploic appendagitis published in Cureus (2021).

Clinical focus

Dr. Mırçık’s clinical interests cover the main cross-sectional imaging methods used in diagnostic radiology. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) are used to assess a wide range of conditions across the body, and his published work includes the application of MRI sequences in the follow-up of patients after endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms. Ultrasound imaging is a further part of his practice and is commonly used as a first-line or complementary examination.

He also has an interest in CT colonography, also known as virtual colonoscopy, a CT-based method of examining the large bowel, and in virtual angiography, in which blood vessels are evaluated from CT or MRI data rather than by catheter-based imaging. The choice of imaging method depends on the clinical question, the patient’s history and any previous examinations, and is decided together with the referring physician.

How Dr. Mırçık works with international patients

Dr. Mırçık speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options, including which imaging examinations may be appropriate. Video consultation is available for international patients, which may be suitable for an initial review of existing imaging or for follow-up discussions where a physical examination is not required.
