Emre Sahillioğlu, MD

Emre Sahillioğlu, MD is an anesthesiologist in the Anesthesiology & Reanimation unit at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul. He has more than 22 years in medicine, and his clinical work covers anesthesiology and reanimation, perioperative care, intensive care, regional anesthesia, and airway management.

Dr. Sahillioğlu graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2004. From 2004 to 2009 he worked as a research assistant at Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine / Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation, and in 2010 he completed his specialization at Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation. During this period he also spent time in Italy, first as a research assistant at Bicocca University Department of Perioperative Care and Intensive Care from 2007 to 2008, and then at Bicocca University Department of Experimental Medicine in 2009. From 2010 to 2012 he served as Başhekim (chief physician) at Hakkari Devlet Hospital, followed by a position at Anadolu Health Center from 2012 to 2013. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2015.

He is a member of the American Society of Anaesthesiologists ASA, the Turkish Society of Anesthesiology and Reanimation TARD, the European Society of Anaesthesiology ESA, the Regional Anesthesia Association RAD, the European Airway Management Society EAMS, and the Turkish Underwater Sports Federation TSSF. His co-authored publications include Ultrasound-Guided Infraclavicular Block Supplementation Is Possible During Hand Surgery (Agri, 2009), Our Bronchial Blocker Experiences In One Lung Ventilation (Tubercul Thorax, 2009), and Outstanding Cerebral Infarction After Internal Jugular Vein Cannulation (Türk Anest Rean Dergisi, 2007).

Clinical focus

Dr. Sahillioğlu’s practice centers on anesthesiology and reanimation. This includes the planning and delivery of anesthesia for patients undergoing procedures, as well as their care before, during, and after those procedures as part of perioperative care. His areas of expertise also include intensive care, where critically ill patients are monitored and supported.

Within anesthesia, he has a particular focus on regional anesthesia, in which specific regions of the body are numbed rather than using general anesthesia alone, and on airway management, the techniques used to keep a patient’s breathing secure during anesthesia and in critical care settings. The specific anesthetic approach for any given patient is decided after assessment of the individual’s health status and the planned procedure.

How Dr. Sahillioğlu works with international patients

Dr. Sahillioğlu consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes, and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination, and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation before traveling.
