Prof. Dr. E. Levent Elemen

Prof. Dr. E. Levent Elemen is a pediatric surgeon at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital (İstanbul), where he works in the Pediatric Surgery unit with a subspecialty focus on Digestive System Diseases and Surgery. He has more than 30 years in medicine. Dr. Elemen graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1996 and completed his specialty training in Pediatric Surgery at the same faculty in 2004.

His professional experience spans university departments, public training hospitals and private hospitals. Between 2004 and 2006 he worked in the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Başkent University Faculty of Medicine, Konya Research and Application Center, followed by the Pediatric Surgery Clinic of İstanbul German Hospital from 2006 to 2007. From 2007 to 2013 he was an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine. He then practiced at Private Memorial Ataşehir Hospital, Department of Pediatric Surgery, from 2013 to 2016, and held the title of Professor at Okan University Faculty of Medicine Department of Pediatric Surgery from 2016 to 2019. From 2019 to 2022 he worked in the Pediatric Surgery Clinic of the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Health Sancaktepe Şehit Prof. Dr. İlhan Varank Training and Research Hospital, before joining Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2022. He is a member of the Turkish Medical Association and the Turkish Pediatric Surgery Association. He has co-authored research articles in journals including the Journal of Pediatric Surgery and Pediatric Surgery International, on topics such as experimental appendicitis models, wound closure in circumcision, distal hypospadias repair and testicular microlithiasis in children.

Clinical focus

Dr. Elemen’s clinical work centers on surgical conditions of childhood, with a particular interest in digestive system diseases and surgery. He evaluates and treats appendicitis in children, umbilical hernia in children and other childhood hernias. His areas of expertise also include undescended testicles and circumcision.

He additionally has expertise in the surgical management of Wilms tumor and in torticollis. Each child is assessed individually, taking into account age, clinical findings and existing reports, and the suitability, timing and type of any procedure are discussed with the family before decisions are made. How Dr. Elemen works with international patients

Dr. Elemen consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options.
