Erdem Uzunoğlu, MD

Erdem Uzunoğlu, MD is a pediatrician at Acibadem Bakirkoy Hospital in İstanbul, where he practices within the Pediatrics unit. A substantial part of Dr. Uzunoğlu’s practice is preventive and developmental care. He carries out well-child follow-up visits, in which growth, feeding and general development are reviewed over time, and he provides childhood vaccinations according to the child’s age and immunization history. He also monitors child nutrition disorders and evaluates iron deficiency and anemia in children, which may be detected during routine follow-up or after symptoms such as fatigue or poor appetite are reported by the family. In the newborn period, he assesses and follows newborn jaundice, and he advises parents on infant colic, a frequent concern in the first months of life.

His clinical interests also include the common infectious and inflammatory conditions of childhood. He evaluates pediatric infectious diseases, upper respiratory tract diseases in children, croup and childhood rash illnesses, and he follows children with PFAPA syndrome, a condition characterized by recurring episodes of fever. Constipation in children is another frequent reason for consultation, and Dr. Uzunoğlu assesses possible contributing factors and discusses dietary and other measures with the family. In each case, the evaluation is based on the child’s history, a clinical examination and, where appropriate, laboratory investigations, with treatment and follow-up planned according to the individual findings.

How Dr. Uzunoğlu works with international patients

Dr. Uzunoğlu consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports, such as growth charts, vaccination records, laboratory results, imaging reports and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s medical history and current symptoms, a review of existing test results and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options and any follow-up that may be needed. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their child’s situation or review results before or after travel; it does not replace an in-person examination where one is clinically necessary.
