Evrim Çeliker Yapıcı, MD

Evrim Çeliker Yapıcı, MD is a physician in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul, where she works within the Pediatrics unit. Her practice is dedicated to the care of newborns who need close monitoring and treatment in the first days and weeks of life, including premature infants and babies with breathing difficulties or neurological complications related to birth. She has more than 22 years in medicine and has been part of Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2021.

Dr. Yapıcı graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2004. She then completed her training in the Department of Child Health and Diseases at İstanbul Göztepe Training and Research Hospital in 2010, followed by neonatology training at Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine, which she completed in 2014. This pathway, from general medicine through pediatrics to the subspecialty of newborn care, forms the basis of her current work in the neonatal intensive care setting.

Clinical focus

A central part of Dr. Yapıcı’s work is the care of premature infants. Babies born early may need support for breathing, feeding, temperature regulation and growth, and their care in the intensive care unit is adjusted as they mature. Within this group, she treats respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), a breathing condition that is closely associated with prematurity and often requires respiratory support in the early period after birth. She also cares for infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a longer-term lung condition that can develop in babies who have needed prolonged breathing support, and which calls for careful follow-up of respiratory status over time.

Dr. Yapıcı also treats newborns with hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE), a condition in which the brain has been affected by reduced oxygen or blood flow around the time of birth. Care for these infants involves close neurological observation and supportive treatment in the intensive care unit. In addition, she provides phototherapy, a light-based treatment used for newborns with elevated bilirubin levels (jaundice). In each of these areas, the care plan is built around the individual condition and needs of the baby, and families are kept informed about their child’s condition and the steps being taken.

How Dr. Yapıcı works with international patients

Dr. Yapıcı consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as ultrasound or MRI reports, laboratory results and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the baby’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and any previous treatment, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultation is available for international families who wish to discuss their baby’s situation or review existing reports before travelling.
