Prof. Evrim Kadriye Tezcanlı, MD

Prof. Evrim Kadriye Tezcanlı, MD is a radiation oncologist who practices in the Radiation Oncology units of Acibadem Altunizade Hospital and Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul. Her clinical work centers on radiation therapy for cancer, including brachytherapy, with particular interest in gastrointestinal oncology, brain tumors, head and neck cancers, and breast cancer. She has more than 34 years in medicine and has been part of Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2007.

Dr. Tezcanlı studied medicine at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine between 1995 and 2000 and completed her specialty training in radiation oncology at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 2005. She is a member of the Radyasyon Onkolojisi Association and the Turkish Oncology Association. Her research contributions include congress presentations and abstracts on the tolerability and efficacy of temozolomide in recurrent high-grade gliomas, proliferation indices as prognostic factors in glioblastoma multiforme and oligodendroglial tumors, stereotactic radiosurgery after external radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal tumors, chemoradiotherapy outcomes in bladder tumors and locally advanced pancreatic cancer, and the Turkish translation of a quality-of-life questionnaire for colorectal cancer patients.

Clinical focus

Dr. Tezcanlı plans and delivers radiation therapy as part of cancer care. This may involve external radiation treatment or brachytherapy, in which a radiation source is placed close to or inside the area being treated. The choice of approach depends on the type and location of the tumor, its stage, previous treatments, and the patient’s general condition, and is discussed with the patient and, where relevant, with other members of the oncology team.

Her areas of expertise include brain tumors, head and neck cancers, breast cancer, and gastrointestinal cancers. In these conditions, radiation therapy may be considered on its own, after surgery, or alongside chemotherapy, depending on the individual case. Dr. Tezcanlı reviews each patient’s diagnosis, imaging, and pathology before discussing whether radiation-based treatment is appropriate and what it would involve.

How Dr. Tezcanlı works with international patients

Dr. Tezcanlı consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes, and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination, and a discussion of the options. Video consultations are available for international patients who wish to discuss their case before traveling or as part of follow-up.
