Clinical focus

The core of Dr. Güven’s practice is the surgical evaluation and care of breast diseases. He sees patients with benign and malignant breast conditions, and a significant part of his work involves breast cancer. In this setting, his role is to assess the patient’s history, symptoms and existing imaging and pathology findings, to examine the breast clinically and to discuss which surgical or non-surgical options may be appropriate. Decisions about breast cancer care depend on the individual findings, and the plan is discussed with the patient rather than assumed in advance.

Dr. Güven also evaluates inflammatory breast diseases, including mastitis. These conditions can present with pain, redness, swelling or discharge, and distinguishing an inflammatory or infectious process from other breast problems requires careful clinical assessment and, where needed, imaging or laboratory results. He reviews such findings with the patient and explains the possible causes and the steps that may follow. Where a condition falls outside his area of practice, he indicates this and, when appropriate, refers to the relevant specialty.

How Dr. Güven works with international patients

Dr. Güven consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example mammography or ultrasound reports, MRI or CT reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options that apply to the individual case. For patients who are not yet able to travel, a video consultation can be arranged as a first step, with the understanding that a physical examination and any further tests would still take place in person if they are needed.
