Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Büyükcam

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Büyükcam is an emergency medicine physician at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul. His primary specialty is Emergency Service, and his clinical work covers the acute assessment and management of urgent medical conditions, including trauma, burns, poisoning-related conditions and environmental emergencies. He has more than 20 years in medicine and is a member of the Turkish Emergency Medicine Association.

Dr. Büyükcam graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2006 and completed his Emergency Medicine training at Ankara Dışkapı Yıldırım Beyazıt Training and Research Hospital in 2011. He remained at the Dışkapı Yıldırım Beyazıt Training and Research Hospital, Ankara Emergency Medicine Clinic as a Resident Doctor (2006–2011), Specialist Doctor (2011–2014) and Associate Professor Doctor (2014 and 2016). In 2015 he served as Training and Administrative Officer at the Bağcılar Training and Research Hospital, İstanbul Emergency Medicine Clinic. In 2016 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services and worked in the Emergency Department of Acıbadem Eskişehir Hospital from 2016 to 2017. From 2018 to 2022 he was Emergency Department Physician and Deputy Responsible Manager at Memorial Ataşehir Hospital. He has co-authored publications in emergency medicine journals on topics such as anxiety in patients’ relatives in the emergency department, risk factors for mortality in elderly patients with hypoglycemia, traumatic deaths in the emergency department, oxygen delivery in asthma and COPD attacks, substance abuse presentations, attempted suicide by hanging, pelvic fracture classification and outcomes, and hemostasis in an experimental bleeding model.

Clinical focus

Dr. Büyükcam’s areas of expertise center on emergency interventions for acutely ill and injured patients. He manages trauma presentations and burn treatment, and his work in toxicology addresses poisoning and intoxication requiring urgent evaluation. He also treats insect bites and stings, including bee stings and tick bites, which may require prompt assessment for local and systemic reactions.

A further area of his practice is environmental emergencies, including drowning. He is experienced in the recognition and management of acute hypoxia and airway obstruction, where timely airway assessment and oxygenation are central to emergency care. In each of these situations, the approach is guided by the patient’s condition at presentation, the clinical examination and the findings of any tests performed.

How Dr. Büyükcam works with international patients

Dr. Büyükcam speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
