Prof. Fatih Oğuz Önder, MD

Prof. Fatih Oğuz Önder, MD is a gastroenterologist at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Gastroenterology unit. His clinical work covers inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, as well as Barrett’s esophagus, celiac disease, hepatitis, and diseases of the pancreas, liver and biliary tract. Dr. Önder graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2000. From 2001 to 2006 he was a research assistant at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine, completing his Internal Medicine training at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 2007. Between 2007 and 2008 he carried out compulsory service at the Ankara Dr. Abdurrahman Yurtaslan Oncology Training and Research Hospital Medical Oncology Clinic. From 2008 to 2012 he was a research assistant at the Ankara Türkiye Yüksek İhtisas Training and Research Hospital Gastroenterology Clinic, completing his Gastroenterology training at Türkiye Yüksek İhtisas Training and Research Hospital in 2011. In 2012 he worked at Tekirdağ – Çorlu Devlet Hospital as part of compulsory service, and he has been with Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2020. He is a member of the Turkish Gastroenterology Association, the Turkish Liver Research Association, the European Association For The Study of The Liver (EASL) and United European Gastroenterology, and has served as Assistant Editor of the Turkish Journal of Gastroenterology since 2007.

Clinical focus

Dr. Önder evaluates and manages patients with inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, as well as celiac disease and Barrett’s esophagus. His practice also includes digestive symptoms and disorders such as reflux, gastritis and dyspepsia. In hepatology, he sees patients with hepatitis and other liver diseases, together with pancreatic and biliary tract conditions. His published work includes studies on the treatment of chronic hepatitis D, the cost-effectiveness of treating chronic hepatitis B, hepatitis B prevalence in Turkey, features of systemic lupus erythematosus in patients with autoimmune hepatitis, predictors of pouchitis after ileal-pouch-anastomosis in ulcerative colitis, and the evaluation of malignant biliary strictures and primary sclerosing cholangitis-like cholangiograms.

Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy is a central part of his work. He performs gastroscopy and colonoscopy, esophagoscopy, and ERCP for the assessment and treatment of biliary and pancreatic conditions. Which procedure is appropriate is decided after a review of the individual patient’s history, prior findings and clinical examination.

How Dr. Önder works with international patients

Dr. Önder consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages.
