Assoc. Prof. Fatma Ölmez, MD

Assoc. Prof. Fatma Ölmez, MD is a specialist in Gynecology & Obstetrics who sees patients at Acibadem Maslak Hospital and Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul. Dr. Ölmez graduated from Ondokuzmayıs University Faculty of Medicine in 2002. She worked as a general practitioner at Samsun 112 Emergency Command Center from 2002 to 2004 and at Bursa Zübeyde Hanım Gynecology and Maternity Hospital from 2004 to 2010. She then trained as a research assistant in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of Trakya University Faculty of Medicine (2010–2012) and of Bursa Şevket Yılmaz Training and Research Hospital (2012–2015), where she completed her specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2015. From 2015 to 2024 she worked as a specialist physician at Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Training and Research Hospital, İstanbul. She received her associate professorship in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2023 and in the same year held an associate professor position at Medipol University Faculty of Medicine and Medipol Acıbadem Hospital. She moved to her current position in 2025. Her published research includes studies on preeclampsia, preterm rupture of membranes, gestational diabetes mellitus, placenta previa, COVID-19 in pregnant patients and enhanced recovery protocols in urogynecological surgery, with articles in journals such as the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research, the Ochsner Journal and Ceska Gynekologie.

Clinical focus

A central part of Dr. Ölmez’s practice is urogynecology and pelvic floor care. She assesses and treats urinary incontinence and other bladder health concerns, as well as uterine prolapse. Her surgical work includes hysterectomy and vNOTES scarless surgery, a transvaginal endoscopic approach that avoids abdominal incisions. Whether surgery is appropriate depends on the individual diagnosis, symptoms and general health, and is discussed with each patient after examination.

Dr. Ölmez also follows women through menopause and evaluates menstrual irregularities and HPV-related concerns. In obstetrics, she provides pregnancy follow-up and attends births, including epidural childbirth, cesarean delivery and water birth. The choice of delivery approach is considered together with the patient in light of the course of the pregnancy.

How Dr. Ölmez works with international patients

Dr. Ölmez consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as ultrasound or MRI reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options.
