Prof. Fevzi Toraman, MD

Prof. Fevzi Toraman, MD is an anesthesiologist in the Anesthesiology & Reanimation unit at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul. With more than 40 years in medicine, his work covers anesthesiology, resuscitation and intensive care, with a particular focus on anesthesia for thoracic, cardiac and vascular surgery. He speaks Turkish and English.

Dr. Toraman graduated from Karadeniz Teknik University Faculty of Medicine in 1986. After working as a general practitioner at the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Health Belören Health Center from 1988 to 1989, he trained as an assistant doctor at the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Health Siyami Ersek Chest Heart and Vascular Surgery Center from 1989 to 1994, completing his specialty training in 1994 at the Dr. Siyami Ersek Chest, Heart and Vascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation. He remained at the center as chief assistant until 1999. He then joined the Acıbadem Kadıköy Hospital Anesthesiology and Reanimation Clinic, working as a specialist doctor from 1999 to 2006 and as an associate professor doctor from 2006 to 2008, before moving in 2008 to the Acıbadem University Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation as an associate professor doctor. He is a member of the Intensive Care Association, the Chest Heart Vascular Anesthesia and Intensive Care Association, the Turkish Anesthesia and Reanimation Association and the Turkish Heart and Vascular Surgery Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Toraman’s clinical practice centers on anesthesia for cardiovascular surgery, including cardiac, thoracic and vascular procedures. In this setting the anesthesiologist is responsible for assessing the patient before surgery, planning and delivering anesthesia, monitoring the heart, circulation and breathing during the operation, and managing pain and recovery afterwards. His areas of expertise also include resuscitation and intensive care, which are closely linked to the perioperative care of patients undergoing heart and vessel surgery.

His published work reflects these interests. He has co-authored papers on the treatment of excessive bleeding after cardiac surgery, the use of tranexamic acid before coronary bypass surgery, the tolerance of anemia in non-transfused coronary surgery patients, preoperative levosimendan in cardiac surgery patients with severe left ventricular dysfunction, and the role of cerebral regional oxygen saturation monitoring in adult cardiac surgery. He has also contributed to reports on endovascular treatment of aortic conditions and on the anesthetic method in bilateral choanal atresia.

How Dr. Toraman works with international patients

Dr. Toraman consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. The hospital’s international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit.
