Assoc. Prof. Halim Ulugöl, MD

Assoc. Prof. Halim Ulugöl, MD is an anesthesiology specialist in the Anesthesiology & Reanimation unit at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul. His work covers anesthesiology and reanimation, thoracic anesthesia, cardiovascular anesthesia, intensive care and perioperative care, supporting patients before, during and after surgical procedures. Dr. Ulugöl studied at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine between 1993 and 2000. From 2000 to 2002 he worked at Eynelli Sağ Ocağı. He then completed his specialty training in anesthesiology and reanimation at Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine Department of Anesthesia and Reanimation between 2002 and 2007. His subsequent positions include Ordu Devlet Hospital (2007–2009), Ardahan Askeri Hospital (2009–2010) and Başkent University İstanbul Health Practice and Research Center (2010–2013). He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2012. He is a member of the Turkish Medical Association, the Turkish Anesthesiology and Reanimation Association and the Thoracic Cardiovascular Anesthesia and Intensive Care Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Ulugöl’s clinical focus is on anesthesia and reanimation. This includes planning and delivering anesthesia for surgical procedures, monitoring patients during the operation and managing the recovery period. Within this field, his areas of expertise include thoracic anesthesia and cardiovascular anesthesia, which address the anesthetic care of patients undergoing chest, heart or vascular surgery, as well as intensive care for patients who need close monitoring and support after surgery or during critical illness.

Perioperative care is a further part of his work. This covers the assessment of a patient before an operation, the choice of anesthetic technique, pain management around the time of surgery and follow-up in the postoperative period. Dr. Ulugöl has co-authored publications on topics such as ultrasound-guided radial arterial cannulation, anesthesia management with a single-injection paravertebral block for aortic coarctation in an infant, the combination of epidural and general anesthesia in renal transplantation surgery, and delayed sternal closure after pediatric cardiac operations. The anesthetic approach for any individual patient is decided after assessment and in coordination with the surgical team.

How Dr. Ulugöl works with international patients

Dr. Ulugöl speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. For patients traveling from abroad, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
