Clinical focus

Dr. Can’s clinical work centers on three closely related areas. The first is intensive care treatment: the care of patients whose condition requires close monitoring and organ support in an intensive care setting. In this context, the anesthesiology and reanimation team follows the patient’s vital functions, adjusts treatment as the clinical picture changes and works together with the other specialties involved in the patient’s care. The length and intensity of intensive care treatment depend on the underlying condition and on how the patient responds.

The second area is advanced life support, which refers to the structured measures used to support breathing and circulation when a patient’s condition becomes critical. The third is palliative care, which is aimed at relieving symptoms and supporting comfort for patients with serious or advanced illness, alongside or after other treatments. In each of these areas, decisions are made on an individual basis after assessing the patient’s current condition, medical history and existing treatments; an approach that is appropriate for one patient may not be suitable for another.

How Dr. Can works with international patients

Dr. Can consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior medical reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit itself. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and current symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. For international patients who are unable to travel at first, a video consultation can be arranged so that Dr. Can can review the case and discuss possible next steps before any decision about treatment is made. The suitability of any treatment is assessed only after this review.
