İlksen Özlü, MD

İlksen Özlü, MD is a radiology specialist at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Radiology unit. Clinical focus

Dr. Özlü’s clinical focus is diagnostic imaging. In tomography, she is involved in the acquisition and interpretation of cross-sectional images that help referring physicians assess anatomy and identify or characterize abnormalities. Interpretation is carried out in the context of the patient’s history, symptoms and previous examinations, and findings are reported to the treating team, who discuss them with the patient and decide on any further steps. Her second area of expertise is ultrasonographic imaging. Ultrasound uses sound waves rather than ionizing radiation and is commonly used to examine soft tissues and organs and to follow known findings over time. As with tomography, the value of an ultrasound examination depends on the clinical question being asked, and Dr. Özlü’s reports are intended to support, rather than replace, the assessment made by the referring physician. Whether a particular examination is appropriate for an individual patient is decided case by case.

How Dr. Özlü works with international patients

Dr. Özlü consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options, including whether further imaging is likely to be helpful. Video consultation is available for international patients, which may be a practical way to review existing imaging and discuss whether an in-person examination is needed.
