İrem Bulut Karabay, MD is a pediatrician in the Pediatrics unit at Acibadem Kartal Hospital in İstanbul. Her clinical work centers on the health of children and adolescents, from routine well-child follow-up to the assessment and management of common childhood illnesses such as croup, upper respiratory tract infections, constipation, infant colic and gas pain, as well as iron deficiency and anemia and the monitoring of nutritional disorders in childhood.

Dr. Karabay attended Galatasaray High School from 2004 to 2009 and studied Health Institutions Management at Anadolu University between 2010 and 2012. She spent a period at the University of Bonn, Medical Faculty in 2014 and graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2015. She completed her specialty training in Pediatrics at Medeniyet University Göztepe Training and Research Hospital in 2020. Her professional career began as a general practitioner at the İstanbul Provincial Ambulance Service 112 Anadolu Command Center (2015–2016). After her specialty training she worked as a pediatrist at Halfeti Devlet Hospital (2020–2021, compulsory service) and at Ataşehir Florence Nightingale Hospital (2021–2023). In 2023 she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services and has since worked at Kadıköy Acıbadem Hospital. She is a member of the Türk Pediatri Association and the Turkish Medical Association, and she is a co-author of published articles on topics including the effects of tracheostomy on mothers of children with cerebral palsy, internal carotid artery dissection following blunt head trauma in a pediatric patient, and treatment satisfaction and quality of life in patients with acromegaly.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Karabay’s practice consists of well-child follow-up: reviewing growth and development, nutrition and age-appropriate health needs in infants, children and adolescents. She also monitors childhood nutritional disorders and evaluates iron deficiency and anemia in children, conditions that are often identified during routine check-ups and followed over time.

Her clinical interests further include the acute and recurrent problems that commonly bring families to a pediatrician. These include croup and other upper respiratory tract infections in children, constipation in children, and infant colic and gas pain in the first months of life. In each case, the aim is to assess the child carefully, explain the likely causes to parents and agree on an appropriate plan of care and follow-up.

Dr. Karabay consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. For families traveling from abroad, the hospital’s international patient team coordinates the collection of prior medical reports, growth records and any existing imaging, arranges the appointment and organizes the hospital visit.
