Prof. Irmak Durur Subaşı, MD

Prof. Irmak Durur Subaşı, MD is a radiologist at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Radiology unit with a subspecialty in Interventional Radiology. Her clinical work centers on breast diseases, breast imaging, mammography, and interventional radiology. She has more than 24 years in medicine and joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2025.

Dr. Subaşı graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2002 and completed her radiology specialty training at Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine between 2002 and 2008. She then worked at Yozgat Devlet Hospital in 2008 and Kars Devlet Hospital in 2009 before returning to Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine Radiology in 2010. She became an Associate Professor of Radiology in 2015 and completed a doctorate in Anatomy at Atatürk University Health Sciences Institute in 2016. In the same year she moved to Dışkapı Yıldırım Beyazıt Training and Research Hospital, and in 2019 to İstanbul Medipol University-Mega University Hospital. In 2021 she was appointed Professor of Radiology at İstanbul Medipol University International Faculty of Medicine, and in 2022 she obtained the European Diploma in Breast Imaging (EDBI). She is a member of the European Society of Radiology, the Europan Society of Breast Imaging, The European Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology, the Turkish Radiology Association, the Türk Manyetik Rezonans Association, the Erzurum Breast Diseases Association, the Ankara Breast Diseases Association, and the İstanbul Medical Chamber.

Clinical focus

Dr. Subaşı’s practice is focused on the radiological assessment of breast diseases. This includes breast imaging and mammography, as well as the interpretation of breast MRI, an area in which she has published on diffusion-weighted MRI of the breast, the use of MRI sequences to estimate the size of invasive breast carcinoma, and mass and non-mass breast MRI patterns. Within interventional radiology, her published work addresses diagnostic and interventional radiology in idiopathic granulomatous mastitis, and she contributed to an international multidisciplinary consensus on the management of granulomatous lobular mastitis.

Her research interests also extend to quantitative perfusion parameters of benign inflammatory breast pathologies, the differentiation of benign and malignant breast lesions using ADC ratios, and the opportunities, challenges, and legal-ethical considerations of artificial intelligence in breast imaging. The specific imaging or interventional approach for an individual patient is determined after a review of the clinical history and existing imaging.

How Dr. Subaşı works with international patients

Dr. Subaşı consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as mammography, ultrasound, MRI or CT reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination, and a discussion of the available options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their case before deciding whether to travel.
