Kaan Maşrabacı, MD

Kaan Maşrabacı, MD is a pediatric surgeon in the Pediatric Surgery unit at Acibadem Kozyatagi Hospital and Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul. With more than 22 years in medicine, he cares for children with surgical conditions affecting the digestive system, abdominal wall, and urinary and genital systems. Dr. Maşrabacı graduated from Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine in 2004 and completed his Pediatric Surgery training at Medeniyet University Göztepe Training and Research Hospital in 2014. He then worked at Ministry of Health İstanbul Medeniyet University Göztepe Training and Research Hospital (2014), Ministry of Health Muş State Hospital (2015–2016), Ministry of Health İstanbul Esenler Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatric Diseases Hospital (2016–2020) and Health Sciences University İstanbul Sancaktepe Şehit Prof. İlhan Varank Training and Research Hospital (2020–2022). Clinical focus

Dr. Maşrabacı’s clinical work covers conditions seen in newborns, infants and older children. In the digestive system and abdominal wall, these include infantile pyloric stenosis, pediatric appendicitis, pediatric hernias and umbilical hernia in children. In the urinary and genital systems, he assesses and treats undescended testicle and hypospadias, and performs newborn and childhood circumcision. He also cares for children with Wilms tumor and with torticollis. The approach to each child is planned according to age, the findings of the clinical examination and any imaging or laboratory results already available.

His published research reflects these interests. He has co-authored studies on whether testicular microlithiasis is associated with testicular pathologies in children, on the management of primary spontaneous pneumothorax in childhood, and on the potential therapeutic effects of ethyl pyruvate in an experimental rat appendicitis model, as well as a case report describing a Factor V Leiden mutation detected after circumcision in a child. How Dr. Maşrabacı works with international patients

Dr. Maşrabacı consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as ultrasound, X-ray, MRI or CT reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultations are available for international patients who wish to discuss their child’s case before traveling.
