Kamuran Mutluay, MD

Kamuran Mutluay, MD is a pediatrician at Acibadem Bakirkoy Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Pediatrics unit. Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Mutluay’s work is preventive: well-child follow-up, in which growth, development and general health are reviewed at regular intervals during childhood and adolescence. He also sees children with everyday complaints, including upper respiratory tract infections, croup, gas pain in infants and children, and constipation. In these situations the aim is to establish the cause, explain the likely course to parents and agree on a treatment plan appropriate to the child’s age and symptoms.

Dr. Mutluay also evaluates children with recurrent or less common conditions. These include PFAPA syndrome, which is characterized by periodic episodes of fever, and Kawasaki disease, an inflammatory condition of childhood that requires timely recognition and follow-up. He assesses and treats iron deficiency and anemia in children, and he provides diagnosis and treatment of childhood infectious diseases more broadly. Where a child’s condition falls outside general pediatrics, the assessment may lead to a referral to a relevant pediatric subspecialty.

How Dr. Mutluay works with international patients

Dr. Mutluay consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as laboratory and pathology results, ultrasound or X-ray reports, previous prescriptions and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing test results and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options with the parents or guardians. Video consultation is available for international patients, which may be used for an initial review of a child’s history and reports or for follow-up after a visit, depending on the clinical situation.
