Prof. Kenan Koç, MD

Prof. Kenan Koç, MD is a neurosurgeon in the Neurosurgery unit of Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul. He has more than 34 years in medicine, with a subspecialty in the treatment of pituitary diseases and a broader practice covering disorders of the brain, spine, and spinal cord.

Dr. Koç graduated from Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine in 1992 and began his career the same year at Devlet Hospital, Isparta. From 1995 he trained and worked at Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery, completing his neurosurgical training there in 2001 and continuing at the department thereafter. In 2017 he joined Emsey Hospital, and since 2019 he has practiced within Acıbadem Healthcare Services. He also has an academic appointment at Nişantaşı University. He is a member of the Nöroonkoloji Association, the Türk Nöroşirurji Association, the Society of Nervous System Surgery, and the Turkish Medical Association. His published work includes studies on endoscopic transsphenoidal approaches to the pituitary region, surgical classification of pituitary adenomas involving the cavernous sinus, the membranous anatomy of the pituitary, the evaluation of intracranial aneurysms with 3D-CT angiography, and factors affecting endoscopic third ventriculostomy in adult aqueductal stenosis.

Clinical focus

Dr. Koç treats brain tumors, spinal and spinal cord tumors, and pituitary diseases, the last of which forms a particular focus of his clinical and research work. He also manages hydrocephalus and brain aneurysms, and sees patients with trigeminal neuralgia.

His spinal practice covers disc herniations and patients presenting with back pain, neck pain, and shoulder pain. In each case, the appropriate approach depends on the individual diagnosis, imaging findings, symptoms, and general health, and not every patient will be a candidate for surgery; conservative options are considered where suitable.

How Dr. Koç works with international patients

Dr. Koç consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
