Assoc. Prof. Levent Aydemir, MD

Assoc. Prof. Levent Aydemir, MD is an otorhinolaryngology specialist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) unit. Patients are typically seen because of complaints in one or more of these regions, and the first step in his approach is a structured clinical assessment: taking a detailed history of the symptoms and how they have developed, reviewing any prior examinations or imaging, and performing an ENT examination appropriate to the complaint. On this basis, he discusses with the patient which further investigations, if any, are advisable and which treatment options may be considered.

Because ear, nose and throat conditions can present in many different ways and may overlap, the assessment is tailored to the individual patient. Where a condition falls outside his own field, or where input from another discipline is useful, Dr. Aydemir works within the multidisciplinary setting of the hospital so that the patient’s care can be coordinated accordingly. Recommendations are made only after the clinical picture has been reviewed; no treatment plan is fixed before the patient has been examined and the available findings have been assessed.

How Dr. Aydemir works with international patients

Dr. Aydemir consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges the appointment and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. For patients abroad, a video consultation can be arranged as an initial step; this allows the history and available reports to be discussed, although a physical examination and any required tests can only take place in person. Follow-up arrangements and any further steps are agreed with the patient once the findings have been reviewed, and care is coordinated through the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) unit at the Maslak hospital.
