Levent Çelik, MD

Levent Çelik, MD is a radiologist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he practices in the Radiology unit. His early career included a position as a general practitioner at Kütahya Raşit Özer Health Center in 2009 and a post as an assistant doctor at İstanbul Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Center from 2009 to 2010. From 2010 to 2014 he worked as a research assistant at Eskişehir Osmangazi University. He then served as a radiology specialist at Osmaniye State Hospital between 2014 and 2016 and at İstanbul Maltepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2016, before joining Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2017. He is a member of the Turkish Radiology Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Çelik’s practice is devoted to diagnostic imaging. Magnetic resonance imaging uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to produce detailed cross-sectional images of the body without ionizing radiation, and is frequently used to assess soft tissues, joints, the brain and the spine. Computed tomography combines a series of X-ray measurements to create layered images and is commonly requested when a rapid or detailed overview of the chest, abdomen, bones or blood vessels is needed. Ultrasonographic imaging relies on sound waves to visualize organs and tissues in real time and is often used as a first-line examination or to guide further investigation.

In each of these modalities, the radiologist’s role is to review the acquired images, describe the findings in a structured report and, where appropriate, recommend additional imaging or correlation with clinical and laboratory information. Dr. Çelik works alongside the referring physicians, and his reports form part of the information those physicians use when discussing diagnosis and possible next steps with the patient. The choice of imaging modality depends on the clinical question, the patient’s history and any previous examinations, and is made in consultation with the treating team.

How Dr. Çelik works with international patients

Dr. Çelik consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination where relevant and a discussion of the options, including which imaging examinations may be appropriate. Video consultation is available for international patients, which can be useful for an initial review of existing imaging and reports before any travel is planned.
