Dr. Mehmet Celal Şen

Dr. Mehmet Celal Şen is a pediatric surgeon at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he practices within the Pediatric Surgery unit. With more than 20 years in medicine, he provides surgical care for infants, children and adolescents with a range of congenital and acquired conditions, from common hernias and appendicitis to more complex problems such as Hirschsprung disease and hypospadias.

Dr. Şen graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2006. He began his career as an ambulance doctor with Ordu-Perşembe No. 1 Emergency Health Services (2006–2007) before starting his specialty training as a research assistant in the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine (2007–2013), where he completed his pediatric surgery training in 2013. He then worked as a specialist doctor at Selahattin Cizrelioğlu Cizre State Hospital (2013–2015) and, from 2015, as a doctor faculty member in the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2020. His published work includes case reports in pediatric oncology, a randomized trial comparing nerve block techniques in children undergoing hypospadias surgery, a report on antenatal choledochal cysts of the newborn and a study of carbon dioxide insufflation and thrombotic factors, appearing in journals such as Pediatric Anesthesia, Pediatrics International, The Turkish Journal of Pediatrics and Gazi Medical Journal.

Clinical focus

Dr. Şen’s areas of expertise cover many of the surgical problems seen in childhood. In pediatric urology and genital surgery, he treats undescended testicles, hypospadias, hydrocele and spermatic cord cysts, and labial adhesions. In abdominal and general pediatric surgery, his practice includes pediatric hernia, pediatric umbilical hernia, pediatric appendicitis and Hirschsprung disease, a congenital condition affecting the bowel. He also treats children with torticollis.

His expertise further extends to pediatric kidney transplantation, which sits within the broader field of pediatric surgery. Each child is assessed individually, and whether observation, non-surgical measures or an operation is appropriate depends on the child’s age, diagnosis, symptoms and general health.
