Prof. Mehmet Cıncık, MD

Prof. Mehmet Cıncık, MD works in the Vitro Fertilization and Reproductive Medicine Center at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, within the Gynecology & Obstetrics unit. His work centers on in vitro fertilization (IVF), assisted reproduction and clinical embryology, together with infertility, reproductive endocrinology, histology and embryology. He has more than 39 years in medicine, much of it spent in IVF units and embryology laboratories.

Dr. Cıncık graduated from Gülhane Military Medical Academy Military Faculty of Medicine in 1987 and completed further education at Hacettepe University Health Sciences Institute in 1997. From 1999 to 2005 he served at Ankara GATA Faculty of Medicine as Laboratory Chief of the In Vitro Fertilization Unit and as a faculty member of the Department of Histology and Embryology. Between 2006 and 2010 he worked in the In Vitro Fertilization Unit of İstanbul GATA Haydarpaşa Training Hospital. From 2010 to 2017 he was Embryology Laboratory Supervisor of the In Vitro Fertilization Unit at Kadıköy Acıbadem Hospital, and in 2017 he became Embryology Laboratory Training Supervisor at the Reproductive Health and In Vitro Fertilization Center of Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital. He is a member of the Reproductive Medicine Association, the Histology and Embryology Association, the Eurepean Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, the Turkish Infertility, Reproductive Endocrinology and Clinical Embryology Association and the Elektron Mikroskopi Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Cıncık’s clinical focus is on infertility and its treatment through in vitro fertilization (IVF) and other forms of assisted reproduction. His background in clinical embryology relates to the laboratory side of IVF, where eggs, sperm and embryos are handled, cultured and assessed before transfer. Reproductive endocrinology, which concerns the hormones that regulate the reproductive system, is also part of his field and informs the evaluation of couples who have difficulty conceiving.

His academic work in histology and embryology, including his faculty role in the Department of Histology and Embryology, underpins this laboratory practice. Because assisted reproduction depends on both clinical and laboratory factors, evaluation is individual; whether a given approach is suitable, and how treatment is likely to proceed, can only be assessed after a patient’s history and test results have been reviewed.

How Dr. Cıncık works with international patients

Dr. Cıncık consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. The hospital’s international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports before a visit, for example ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, records of previous fertility treatments, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit itself. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging, test results and previous treatments, a clinical examination where appropriate and a discussion of the options that may be considered. A video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation before traveling, although a final assessment and any treatment plan depend on an in-person evaluation.
