Meltem Doğan, Audiologist

Meltem Doğan is an audiology professional at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul, where she works within the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) unit. Her work is centered on hearing assessment, with a focus on audiometry, hearing loss, paediatric hearing loss and BERA (ABR) testing. She has more than 29 years of experience in the field and sees both adults and children who are being evaluated for hearing concerns.

Her training began at Hacettepe University Vocational School of Health Services in 1997. Between 2016 and 2018 she continued her studies at Biruni University Faculty of Health Sciences. Her professional career started in 1997 at Me-Di Health Services Import and Trade Inc., where she worked until 2017. Since 2017 she has been part of Acıbadem Healthcare Services, practising in the audiology field within the ENT unit.

Clinical focus

Meltem Doğan carries out audiometry, the measurement of hearing sensitivity that forms the basis of most hearing evaluations. Her work covers the assessment of hearing loss in adults as well as paediatric hearing loss, where testing approaches are adapted to the age and cooperation of the child. She also performs BERA (ABR) testing, an objective, electrophysiological test of the auditory pathway that can be used when behavioral hearing tests alone are not sufficient or cannot be completed, including in infants and young children.

Audiological findings are considered together with the clinical picture and are shared with the ENT team, so that the results can be interpreted in the context of the patient’s overall evaluation. Where further steps are being considered, the audiological assessment provides part of the information the treating physicians use when discussing options with the patient or family.

How Meltem Doğan works with international patients

Meltem Doğan speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who prefer another language. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports, such as previous hearing tests, ENT reports, imaging reports and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of earlier tests and treatments, a clinical examination and hearing assessment as appropriate, and a discussion of the findings and possible next steps. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation or review existing results before deciding whether to travel.
