Meltem Yücebaş, MD

Meltem Yücebaş, MD is an anesthesiologist in the Anesthesiology & Reanimation unit at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul. Dr. Yücebaş attended Ted Ankara Koleji from 1979 to 1982 and studied medicine at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine from 1982 to 1988. From 1990 to 1995 she was a research assistant at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation, where she completed her specialist training in Anesthesiology and Reanimation in 1995 and then worked as a specialist physician. In 1992 she undertook an internship at the Minnesota University Veterans Administration Hospital Anesthesiology and Reanimation Clinic in the United States, gaining experience in its Cardiac Anesthesia, Neuroanesthesia and Algology Departments. She was a lecturer at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation from 1995 to 1996 and an assistant associate professor at Maltepe University Faculty of Medicine Marmara Hospital Department of Anesthesia and Reanimation from 1996 to 2001. She is a member of the Turkish Association of Anesthesiology and Reanimation, the Thoracic Cardiovascular Anesthesia Association and the Intensive Care Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Yücebaş works in anesthesiology and reanimation, providing anesthetic care and perioperative support to patients undergoing surgery. Her areas of expertise include cardiac anesthesia, the anesthetic management of patients undergoing heart surgery, and neuroanesthesia, the anesthetic care of patients having brain and spine procedures. She also has a background in algology, the field of medicine concerned with the assessment and management of pain, and in perioperative care, which spans the period before, during and after an operation.

Her published work reflects these interests. She has co-authored studies on postoperative analgesia after day-case laparoscopy, including a comparison of prophylactic opioid, NSAID and local anesthesia published in Acta Anaesthesiol Scand in 2000, and on intra-articular morphine for pain relief after knee arthroscopy in Eur J Anaesthesiol in 1997. She has also co-authored case reports on anesthetic management in von Hippell-Lindau disease and in maple syrup urine disease, published in the European Journal of Anaesthesiology and Anaesthesia in 1996, as well as papers on nimodipine and lipid peroxidation in the acute phase of light head trauma and on preoperative diclofenac and succinylcholine-induced muscle injury and myalgia.

How Dr. Yücebaş works with international patients

Dr. Yücebaş speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit.
