Prof. Dr. M.Faruk Köse

Prof. Dr. M.Faruk Köse is a specialist in Gynecology & Obstetrics at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul. He graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1981 and completed his specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1988. In 2011, he received Medical Specialization Board recognition in Gynecologic Oncology Surgery. His subspecialty areas are menopause, urogynecology and robotic surgery, and he has worked in medicine for more than 45 years.

Dr. Köse began his career as a General Practitioner at Ankara Sugar Factory (1981–1983). After his specialty training, he worked as a Specialist Physician at Ankara Maternity and Gynecology Training Hospital (1988–1992) and then served as Head of Clinic of its Gynecologic Oncology Clinic from 1992 to 2005. From 2005 to 2011, he was Head of Clinic at the Gynecologic Oncology Clinic of Etlik Zübeyde Hanım Obstetrics and Gynecology Training and Research Hospital. He subsequently held the position of Medical Director at Universal İtalyan Giovanni Alberto Agnelli Hospital (2011–2012), was Clinical Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology at LIV Hospital Ulus (2012–2014), and worked as a Gynecologic Oncology Surgery Specialist in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department of Medipol Mega University Hospital (2014–2016). He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2016. He is a member of professional bodies including the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology, the International Gynecologic Cancer Society, the Society of European Robotic Gynecologic Surgery, the Turkish Obstetrics and Gynecology Association and the Turkish Gynecologic Oncology Association. He has co-authored peer-reviewed publications on topics such as granulosa cell tumors, uterine carcinosarcoma, endometrial cancer and the management of cervical cancer during pregnancy in journals including International Journal of Gynecological Cancer and Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Clinical focus

Dr. Köse assesses and treats a range of gynecological conditions. His areas of expertise include menopause, urogynecology, pelvic pain and functional disorders, uterine prolapse and HPV. He also provides endometriosis treatment, with the approach chosen according to the individual patient’s findings and symptoms.

On the surgical side, his work includes robotic surgery, vNOTES scarless surgery and vaginal laparoscopy. Whether a surgical or non-surgical option is appropriate depends on the diagnosis, the patient’s history and the results of clinical evaluation, and these considerations are discussed with the patient before any decision is made.

How Dr. Köse works with international patients

Dr. Köse consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation before travelling to İstanbul.
