Prof. Dr. M.Özcan Erdemli

Prof. Dr. M.Özcan Erdemli is an anesthesiology specialist in the Anesthesiology & Reanimation unit at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul. He graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1983 and worked at Erzurum İspir Health Center from 1983 to 1985. He completed his training in Anesthesiology and Reanimation at Türkiye Yüksek İhtisas Training and Research Hospital in 1990. From 1992 to 1993 he was a Research Fellow at Tulane University, Pulmonary Research Laboratory, New Orleans, USA, and in 1994 he became an Associate Professor at Türkiye Yüksek İhtisas Training and Research Hospital.

Over the following years, Dr. Erdemli held a series of clinical and administrative positions at Türkiye Yüksek İhtisas Training and Research Hospital: Deputy Head of the Anesthesiology and Reanimation Clinic (1993–1998), Head of the Anesthesiology and Reanimation Clinic (1998), Clinical Director of Anesthesiology and Reanimation (2002–2010), Intensive Care Coordinator (2006–2012) and Clinical Administrative Supervisor of Anesthesiology and Reanimation (2010–2012). In parallel, he worked in Cardiovascular Anesthesia at Private Çankaya Hospital (2002–2004) and held General Intensive Care Responsibility, Intensive Care Coordination and the role of Deputy Chief Physician at Private Güven Hospital (2004–2010). He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2012. He is a member of the Turkish Medical Association, the Turkish Society of Anesthesia and Reanimation, the Society of Thoracic Cardiovascular Anesthesia and Intensive Care, the Turkish Society of Intensive Care, the Society of Anesthesiology and Reanimation Specialists and the European Association of Cardiothorasic Anaesthesiologists. His published work includes studies on weaning from mechanical ventilation, the hemodynamic response to tracheal intubation, anesthetic preconditioning in cardiac surgery and accelerated recovery after beating heart coronary revascularization.

Clinical focus

Dr. Erdemli’s areas of expertise are anesthesiology, reanimation, cardiovascular anesthesia, intensive care and pulmonary research. His work in anesthesiology covers the assessment of patients before surgery, the planning and delivery of anesthesia during procedures and the monitoring of patients as they recover. Within cardiovascular anesthesia, he has experience in the anesthetic care of patients undergoing heart and vascular surgery, including cardiac surgery with and without a beating heart approach, as reflected in his publications.

In reanimation and intensive care, his background includes the coordination of general intensive care services and the management of critically ill patients, including ventilator weaning, nutrition in critical illness and infection-related complications. His fellowship at Tulane University, Pulmonary Research Laboratory, New Orleans, USA, and his later publications reflect a continued interest in pulmonary research. The suitability of any anesthetic or intensive care approach depends on the individual patient and is decided after clinical assessment.

How Dr. Erdemli works with international patients

Dr. Erdemli speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages.
