Prof. Dr. Murat Aksu

Prof. Dr. Murat Aksu is a neurologist at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul, where he practices in the Neurology unit. His subspecialty areas are stroke and preventive treatments, headache treatment, and dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and aging. He has more than 38 years of experience in medicine, spanning clinical work, university teaching and research.

Dr. Aksu graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1988 and completed his neurology training at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine in 1993. He then worked at Bilecik Devlet Hospital from 1993 to 1996 before joining the Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine Department of Neurology, where he worked from 1996 to 2006 and from 2006 to 2011. Between 2002 and 2005 he served as a Special Scientist at the National Institutes of Health, National Institutes of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. He became a professor at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine in 2006 and obtained Medical Specialization Board certification in Clinical Neurophysiology in 2011. He has been with Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2015. He is a member of the Turkish Neurology Association, the Turkish Sleep Medicine Association, the EEG-EMG Clinical Neurophysiology Association, the World Association of Sleep Medicine, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the International Restless Legs Syndrome Study Group and the European Restless Legs Syndrome Study Group. His published work includes studies on restless legs syndrome severity, sleep architecture in endocrine conditions, neuroimaging in Tourette syndrome and pseudoephedrine-induced nonconvulsive status epilepticus.

Clinical focus

Dr. Aksu evaluates and treats a broad range of neurological conditions. His work in epilepsy is supported by his training in clinical neurophysiology. In headache care, he treats migraine and applies advanced migraine treatment protocols, including migraine vaccines and biological agents. He also focuses on stroke prevention and preventive treatments for patients at risk of cerebrovascular events.

In the field of neuromuscular disorders, Dr. Aksu manages myopathies and myasthenia gravis. His practice further covers multiple sclerosis and neurodegenerative conditions associated with aging, including dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. How Dr. Aksu works with international patients
