Prof. Murat Yayla, MD

Prof. Murat Yayla, MD is a specialist in Gynecology & Obstetrics whose subspecialty is Perinatology and High-Risk Pregnancies. Dr. Yayla graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1983 and worked as a general practitioner at Kütahya Tavşanlı Health Center from 1983 to 1985. He then trained as an assistant in the İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1985 to 1990, completing his specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1990. From 1990 to 2004 he was a member of the Dicle University Faculty of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, where he became Associate Professor in 1995 and Professor in 2001. During this period he also worked at Haydarpaşa GATA (1991–1992) and spent observer periods at the İstanbul University, Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of Perinatology (1992) and at the Erasmus University Deikzeight Hospital, Perinatology Unit, Netherlands (1996). Between 2004 and 2006 he served as Clinical Chief of the Haseki Training and Research Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic. In 2011 he received Medical Specialty Board recognition in Perinatology. He is a member of the Fetal Medicine Association, the Turkish Association of Gynecology and Obstetrics, the İstanbul Medical Chamber, the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Turkish Perinatology Association, the Association of Obstetric and Gynecological Ultrasonography and the European Association of Perinatal Medicine. His published work includes studies on fetal ultrasound measurements, umbilical cord and umbilical artery findings, uterine artery Doppler in pregnancy and the prediction of preeclampsia in high-risk pregnancies.

Clinical focus

Dr. Yayla’s practice centers on pregnancy care, with particular attention to high-risk pregnancies. His areas of expertise include detailed pregnancy ultrasound, prenatal diagnosis and amniocentesis, as well as fetal treatment and fetal surgery where a condition is identified before birth. He provides pregnancy follow-up for both routine and high-risk pregnancies, in which maternal and fetal assessment is carried out over the course of the pregnancy.

He also supports patients with delivery planning. The delivery options within his practice include epidural delivery, cesarean delivery and water birth. The appropriate approach depends on the individual course of the pregnancy, the findings of imaging and prenatal tests, and the mother’s and baby’s condition, and is discussed with the patient during follow-up.

How Dr. Yayla works with international patients

Dr. Yayla consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients, which may be useful for an initial review of a pregnancy or for follow-up discussion when travel is not yet planned.
