Mustafa Engin Çakmakçı, MD

Mustafa Engin Çakmakçı, MD is an Otorhinolaryngology specialist in the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) unit at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul. He graduated from Gazi University Faculty of Medicine in 1985 and began his career as a physician at Ankara Numune Hospital Hızır Emergency Service (1985–1987), where he later served as physician and manager (1988–1989). He trained as an ENT Diseases and Head and Neck Surgery Resident in the 2nd ENT Clinic of SSK Ankara Training Hospital from 1989 to 1993 and completed his specialty training in Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases at Ankara Atatürk Training and Research Hospital in 1993. He has more than 41 years in medicine.

Dr. Çakmakçı undertook further training in Cochlear Implant Applications at Freiburg University ENT Clinic, Germany, in 1997 and in evaluation of the vestibular system and dizziness at Maastricht University, Netherlands, in 2005. He worked as an ENT Diseases and Head and Neck Surgery Specialist in the 2nd ENT Clinic of SSK Ankara Training Hospital from 1993 to 2000. From 2000 he practiced at Acıbadem Healthcare Services Bakırköy Hospital, where he served as Chief Physician from 2005 and as Hospital Director and Chief Physician from 2013 to 2015; between 2006 and 2008 he also held the position of Hospital Chief Physician at International Hospital. From 2015 to 2016 he was ASG Deputy Medical Director. He is a member of the Rinoloji Association and the Turkish Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery Association, a Board Member of the Turkish ENT and Head and Neck Surgery Association, and a founding member and President of the İstanbul ENT and Head and Neck Surgery Specialists Association. He has co-authored publications on cochlear implantation, selective neck dissection, laryngeal leiomyosarcoma, lateral aberrant thyroid and intratympanic gentamicin therapy in Ménière’s disease.

Clinical focus

Dr. Çakmakçı’s clinical work covers ear, nose and throat diseases and head and neck surgery. A particular area of his practice is cochlear implant applications, a field in which he has trained and published, including work on preoperative radiologic assessment, selection criteria and quality of life in adult patients.

He also assesses the vestibular system and evaluates patients with dizziness, drawing on his training in this area. As with any ENT concern, the appropriate approach depends on the individual findings and is determined after clinical assessment.

How Dr. Çakmakçı works with international patients

Dr. Çakmakçı consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages.
