Necdet Durhan, MD

Necdet Durhan, MD is an emergency service physician at Acibadem Kent Hospital in İzmir, Türkiye. Dr. Durhan graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1996. Between 1995 and 2002 he completed his compulsory service in the emergency departments of Karaman State Hospital and Konya Numune Hospital. From 2002 to 2005 he worked in the Emergency Department of Aydın State Hospital, and from 2005 to 2015 at Buca Seyfi Demirsoy State Hospital, where his duties covered the Emergency Department, the General Intensive Care Unit and the Coronary Intensive Care Unit. From 2015 to 2022 he was a ward physician in the Cardiovascular Surgery Intensive Care Unit at İzmir Medical Park Hospital, followed by a period from 2022 to 2023 as an emergency department and ward physician at İzmir Medical Point Hospital. In 2023 he worked in the Emergency Department of İzmir Can Hospital, where he was the physician responsible for the department. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2024.

Clinical focus

Dr. Durhan’s clinical work centers on the assessment and initial management of patients who arrive in the emergency department with acute or time-sensitive problems. This includes trauma of varying severity and environmental emergencies, a group of conditions caused by exposure to the surrounding environment rather than by an underlying illness. Within this group he sees patients following drowning incidents, as well as those affected by bee stings and tick bites, which may require observation for local or systemic reactions.

He also manages acute hypoxia, in which the body’s tissues do not receive enough oxygen, and airway obstruction, in which the passage of air to the lungs is partly or completely blocked. Both conditions call for prompt recognition and stabilization, and Dr. Durhan’s years in emergency, general, coronary and cardiovascular surgery intensive care settings inform his approach to patients whose condition may change rapidly and who may need continued monitoring after initial treatment.

How Dr. Durhan works with international patients

Dr. Durhan speaks Turkish and English. For patients coming from abroad, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Interpreters can be arranged when a patient does not speak Turkish or English. Video consultation is available for international patients, so a patient abroad can speak with Dr. Durhan in either language before deciding whether to travel.
