Assoc. Prof. Önder Doksöz, MD

Assoc. Prof. Önder Doksöz, MD is a specialist in Pediatric Cardiology who practices within the Pediatrics units at Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir) in İzmir and Acibadem Bodrum Hospital in Muğla. Between 2010 and 2014 he undertook subspecialty training in Pediatric Cardiology at İzmir Dr. Behçet Uz Pediatric Diseases and Surgery Training and Research Hospital, completing it in 2014. From 2014 to 2015 he served as a Pediatric Cardiology Specialist at Hatay Obstetrics and Gynecology and Children’s Diseases Hospital. In 2023 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services.

Clinical focus

Dr. Doksöz evaluates and follows children with congenital heart diseases, including atrial septal defect (ASD). His clinical interests also include cardiomyopathy, heart failure and heart valve problems in pediatric patients, as well as the assessment of arrhythmias. The approach in each case depends on the child’s age, the type of condition and the findings of the clinical and imaging evaluation, and the options are discussed with the family accordingly.

A further area of his work is fetal echocardiography and prenatal cardiac diagnosis. This ultrasound-based examination of the fetal heart during pregnancy can help identify structural heart abnormalities before birth, which allows families and the treating teams to plan follow-up and care around delivery. Findings are interpreted in the context of the pregnancy and, where appropriate, in coordination with the obstetric team.

How Dr. Doksöz works with international patients

Dr. Doksöz consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. Before a visit, the hospital’s international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as echocardiography or ultrasound reports, MRI or CT results, laboratory findings, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges the appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and any previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the possible options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss a case or review reports before deciding whether to travel; a physical examination and imaging at the hospital may still be needed to complete the assessment.
