Asst. Prof. Ozan Kocakaya, MD

Asst. Prof. Ozan Kocakaya, MD is an Internal Medicine specialist at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul, where he practices in the Internal Medicine unit with a subspecialty focus on thyroid diseases and treatment. He has more than 23 years in medicine and combines clinical work with a background in university teaching and internal medicine research.

Dr. Kocakaya graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 2003 and completed his specialization at the Marmara University Faculty of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine in 2009, having worked there as a Research Assistant from 2004 to 2009. Between 2009 and 2010 he served as Medical Second Lieutenant / Lieutenant with NATO Rapid Deployable Corps-Türkiye, 3. Corps Command. From 2010 to 2013 he was an Internal Medicine Specialist at Süreyyapaşa Chest Diseases and Surgery Training and Research Hospital, and in 2012 he worked with Acıbadem Healthcare Services. He returned to the Marmara University Faculty of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine as Lecturer / Specialist from 2013 to 2016, when he was also a Board Member of the Hypertension and Atherosclerosis Unit. In 2016 he became a Faculty Member and Assistant Professor, served as a Faculty Board Member and Representative of Faculty Members, and chaired the Urinary and Reproductive Systems Course Committee from 2016 to 2019. He is a member of the İstanbul Medical Chamber, the European Federation of Internal Medicine, the European Respiratory Society, the Turkish Medical Association and the Turkish Internal Medicine Specialization Association. His published work includes papers on Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy, gene polymorphisms in essential hypertension, bortezomib in POEMS syndrome, hepatitis A vaccines and the health risks of Muslim pilgrimage.

Clinical focus

Dr. Kocakaya’s clinical work covers a broad range of internal medicine conditions. Thyroid disorders form a central part of his practice, alongside metabolic concerns such as prediabetes, type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes treatment, and obesity. He also evaluates and manages anemia, edema and upper respiratory tract infections, and provides care in cases of poisoning.

A further area of his practice is the assessment of liver diseases and pancreatic and biliary tract diseases. He also offers chronic disease management, which typically involves structured follow-up, review of laboratory results and adjustment of treatment over time in coordination with other specialties where needed.

How Dr. Kocakaya works with international patients

Dr. Kocakaya consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages.
