Özgün Özçelik, MD

Imaging alone does not establish a diagnosis in every case, and additional tests may be recommended depending on the findings.

The two imaging methods listed among his areas of expertise are mammography and ultrasonographic imaging. Mammography is an X-ray-based examination of the breast and is commonly used both for screening and for the assessment of symptoms. Ultrasonographic imaging uses sound waves rather than radiation and is often used to characterize findings seen on mammography, to examine dense breast tissue, or to evaluate a specific area of concern. Which method is suitable, and whether one or both are needed, depends on the individual patient’s age, symptoms, history, and previous imaging, and is determined case by case.

How Dr. Özçelik works with international patients

Dr. Özçelik consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example earlier mammography or ultrasound reports, MRI or CT reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes, and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and any previous treatments, a clinical examination, and a discussion of the options, including which imaging examinations, if any, may be appropriate. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their imaging or previous reports before deciding whether to travel; whether a remote review is sufficient or an in-person examination is needed depends on the individual case and the quality of the available images.
