Prof. Dr. Özlem Aydoğ

Prof. Dr. Özlem Aydoğ is a pediatrician with subspecialty training in pediatric nephrology and pediatric rheumatology. She practices in the Pediatrics unit at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where her work centers on kidney disease and rheumatic conditions in children. She has more than 38 years in medicine and is a member of the Milli Pediatri Association, the Pediatric Nephrology Association, the Pediatric Rheumatology Association and the Turkish Nephrology Association.

Dr. Aydoğ graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1988. She completed her training in Child Health and Diseases in 1993 and in Pediatric Nephrology in 1999, both at Ankara Dr.Sami Ulus Gynecology, Obstetrics, Child Health and Diseases Training and Research Hospital. She became an Associate Professor of Pediatric Nephrology in 2004, obtained the Medical Specialization Board in Pediatric Rheumatology in 2011 and was appointed Professor of Pediatric Nephrology and Rheumatology in 2016. Her early career was spent at Ankara Dr. Sami Ulus Child Health and Diseases Training and Research Hospital, where she worked as a research assistant and chief assistant in pediatrics, as a research assistant and then specialist in pediatric nephrology, and later as Deputy Chief of Pediatric Nephrology. From 2011 to 2016 she served as Training Coordinator of the Pediatric Nephrology and Rheumatology Clinic. Between 2016 and 2022 she was Head of the Department of Pediatric Nephrology and Rheumatology at Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Medicine, and from 2022 to 2024 she practiced at Bahçelievler Medical Park Hospital before joining Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2024.

Clinical focus

In pediatric nephrology, Dr. Aydoğ evaluates and manages children with recurrent urinary tract infections, glomerulonephritis, hematuria and urinary stone disease. She also follows children with kidney failure and chronic kidney disease, conditions that typically require ongoing monitoring and coordination of care over time.

In pediatric rheumatology, her areas of expertise include juvenile idiopathic arthritis, Kawasaki disease, dermatomyositis, Behçet’s disease and familial Mediterranean fever. She has co-authored publications on topics such as urinary biomarkers for urinary tract infection in children, complement gene mutations in C3 glomerulopathy, neuropsychiatric involvement in juvenile-onset systemic lupus erythematosus, multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children, atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome and canakinumab treatment in colchicine-resistant familial Mediterranean fever.

How Dr. Aydoğ works with international patients

Dr. Aydoğ consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging, laboratory results and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options.
