Prof. Dr. Özlem Pata

Prof. Dr. Özlem Pata is a specialist in Gynecology & Obstetrics whose subspecialty focus is perinatology and the care of high-risk pregnancies. She sees patients at Acibadem Bakirkoy Hospital in İstanbul within the Gynecology & Obstetrics unit. With more than 39 years in medicine, she combines clinical work in general gynecology and obstetrics with the assessment and follow-up of pregnancies that require closer monitoring. She is a member of the Turkish Gynecology Association and the Turkish-German Gynecology Association.

Dr. Pata studied medicine at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine between 1987 and 1993 and completed her specialization in Kadın Hastalıkları ve Doğum (gynecology and obstetrics) at Ankara Doğumevi ve Kadın Hastalıkları Hospital in 1999. From 1999 to 2005 she worked as Assistant Associate Professor at the Mersin University Faculty of Medicine Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, becoming Associate Professor there in 2005 and continuing in that role until 2006. In 2006 she worked at King’s College Hospital and joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. In 2011 she received Medical Specialization Board recognition in Perinatology. Her published work includes studies on renal function in severe pre-eclampsia, cervical measurements by transvaginal ultrasound to predict preterm delivery, cesarean scar ectopic pregnancy, endometriotic cyst surgery and hormone therapy regimens in postmenopausal women, as well as case reports in fetal and gynecologic pathology.

Clinical focus

Dr. Pata’s clinical practice covers gynecology, obstetrics and perinatology, with particular attention to high-risk pregnancies. In obstetric care, this includes the follow-up of pregnancies complicated by maternal or fetal conditions, where the frequency of visits, ultrasound assessment and the timing and mode of delivery are planned according to the individual situation. Perinatology assessment is aimed at identifying and monitoring risks to the mother and the fetus so that care can be adjusted as the pregnancy progresses.

In gynecology, she provides consultation and follow-up for a range of conditions affecting women’s health. Each case is evaluated on the basis of the patient’s history, examination findings and available test results, and the possible approaches, including their expected course and limitations, are discussed before any decision is made.

How Dr. Pata works with international patients

Dr. Pata consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as ultrasound, MRI or CT reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. For patients who would like an initial assessment or follow-up from abroad, video consultation is available; whether an in-person examination or additional testing is needed is then decided on a case-by-case basis.
