Rabia Karasu, MD

Rabia Karasu, MD is a radiology specialist at Acibadem Ankara Hospital in Ankara, where she works within the Radiology unit. Her early career included posts as a health center physician in Burdur / Altınyayla, at Kırıkkale / Delice / Büyükyağlı and Kırıkkale Central No. 3 Health Center, and as Communicable Diseases Branch Manager at the Kırıkkale Provincial Health Directorate, followed by work as a Family Medicine Specialist at Ankara/ Bayındır Hospital and involvement in the establishment of the health center at the Ankara/ 75th Year Elderly Care Home. As a radiology specialist she worked at Sinop Atatürk State Hospital (2008–2011), İstinye State Hospital (2011), Şişli Etfal Hospital Department of Radiology, Department of Ultrasound-Guided Interventional Procedures (2011–2019), and Baltalimanı Bone Diseases Training and Research Hospital Department of Radiology (2019–2025). She is a member of the Turkish Radiology Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Karasu’s clinical work centers on ultrasound imaging and mammography, with a particular interest in breast diseases. Imaging of this kind is used to assess symptoms, to characterize findings, and to support decisions about whether further investigation is needed. In each case the choice of imaging method depends on the clinical question, the patient’s history, and any prior examinations that are available for comparison.

She also performs ultrasound-guided interventional procedures, in which real-time imaging is used to guide a needle or other instrument to a target area. Her experience in this field includes her time in the Department of Ultrasound-Guided Interventional Procedures at Şişli Etfal Hospital. Whether such a procedure is appropriate is decided individually, after the imaging findings have been reviewed and discussed with the patient and, where relevant, with the referring physician.

How Dr. Karasu works with international patients

Dr. Karasu consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as ultrasound, mammography, MRI or CT reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their case before or after traveling.
