Assoc. Prof. Sebahat Nacar Doğan, MD

Assoc. Prof. Sebahat Nacar Doğan, MD is a radiologist at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Radiology unit with a subspecialty in Interventional Neuroradiology. She has more than 29 years in medicine, and her professional interests include virtual angiography, interventional neuroradiology, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Dr. Doğan graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1997. She began her postgraduate work as an Assistant Doctor in the Neurology Clinic of Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital (1997–1999) before moving to Taksim Training and Research Hospital, where she trained as an Assistant Doctor from 1999 and completed her radiology training in 2003. From 2001 to 2021 she served as Chief Assistant Specialist Physician at Taksim(Gaziosmanpaşa) Training and Research Hospital, and from 2013 to 2016 she was Administrative Supervisor of the Radiology Clinic at S.B.Ü. Gaziosmanpaşa Training and Research Hospital, where she was appointed Associate Professor in 2021. Her career also includes visiting research fellowships at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of Radiology, in Diagnostic Neuroradiology (2011) and Interventional Neuroradiology (2017), as well as a role with Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2014. She is a member of the Türk Nöroradyoloji Association, the Turkish Radiology Association, the European Society of Neuroradiology (ESNR), the European Society of Radiology (ESR) and the Turkish Interventional Radiology Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Doğan’s work centers on imaging of the nervous system and on interventional neuroradiology. Her diagnostic practice is built around computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, and she also has a professional interest in virtual angiography, a non-invasive imaging approach to visualizing blood vessels. In interventional neuroradiology, image-guided techniques are used to assess and, where appropriate, treat vascular conditions of the brain and surrounding structures; the suitability of any such approach depends on the individual findings and is discussed with the patient after a review of the imaging.

She has co-authored peer-reviewed publications on the topographic evaluation of thalamic and bithalamic infarctions on diffusion-weighted imaging, endovascular management of anterior falcotentorial dural arteriovenous fistulas, diffusion tensor imaging in migraine patients, deep learning in segmenting acute ischemic lesions, and computed tomography findings in small bowel obstruction, portal vein variations and coronavirus disease 2019. These publications reflect her research interests rather than a description of every service she provides.

How Dr. Doğan works with international patients

Dr. Doğan consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging (for example MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries), arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their imaging or findings before deciding on a visit.
