Assoc. Prof. Seden Erten Çelik, MD

Assoc. Prof. Seden Erten Çelik, MD is a cardiologist in the Cardiology Department of Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul. She studied at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine from 1982 to 1988 and completed her cardiology training at Dr. Siyami Ersek Chest, Cardiovascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital in 1995. She became an associate professor at the same hospital in 2005 and has more than 44 years in medicine.

Dr. Çelik began her career as a general practitioner at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital in 1990 and in the Taksim State Hospital Emergency Department from 1990 to 1991. From 1991 to 2009 she worked at Dr. Siyami Ersek Chest, Cardiovascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital, first as a research assistant (1991–1995), then as a specialist physician (1995–1996), chief assistant (1997–2004) and deputy clinic chief and associate professor (2005–2009). In 1994 she received echocardiography training in Prof. Dr. Alain Carpentier’s Department at Broussais Hospital, Paris. She joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2009. She is a member of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), the Turkish Society of Cardiology, the Turkish Society of Cardiology Cardiac Imaging Working Group and the İstanbul Medical Chamber. Her published work includes studies on transthoracic Doppler echocardiographic assessment of coronary flow, coronary flow in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, heart rate variability in systemic sarcoidosis and the prevalence of patent foramen ovale in patients with migraine.

Clinical focus

Dr. Çelik’s clinical work covers a range of cardiovascular conditions. She evaluates and follows patients with heart failure and with coronary artery disease, including atherosclerosis, angina and myocardial infarction. Her practice also includes the assessment of heart valve disease, such as aortic stenosis, mitral valve regurgitation and rheumatic heart disease.

In addition, she sees patients with arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, and with hypotension. Her background in echocardiography and cardiac imaging forms part of her diagnostic approach to these conditions. Treatment recommendations depend on each patient’s findings and are discussed individually after assessment.

How Dr. Çelik works with international patients

Dr. Çelik consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as echocardiography, MRI, CT or X-ray reports, laboratory results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit.
