Serdar Değer, MD

Serdar Değer, MD is a cardiologist in the Cardiology Department at Acibadem Bursa Hospital in Bursa, Turkey. With more than 30 years in medicine, he cares for adult patients with coronary artery disease, heart failure, heart valve disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and heart rhythm disturbances, and he performs percutaneous coronary interventions, echocardiography and Holter rhythm monitoring.

Dr. Değer graduated from Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine in 1996 and completed his cardiology training at Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Medicine in 2003. He then worked as a cardiology specialist at Batman State Hospital from 2004 to 2005 and at Özel Siirt Hayat Hospital from 2005 to 2009, before joining Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2009. He is a member of the Turkish Cardiology Association and the Turkish Medical Association. He has co-authored publications on the demographic characteristics of coronary angiography cases and on the role of exercise stress testing in demonstrating ischemia after anterior myocardial infarction.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Değer’s work involves coronary artery disease, ischemic heart disease and atherosclerosis. He evaluates patients with chest symptoms or known coronary narrowing, interprets angiography findings and, where appropriate, performs percutaneous coronary intervention to open narrowed vessels. He also assesses and manages the risk factors that contribute to coronary disease, including hypertension, hypotension and hyperlipidemia, with treatment plans adjusted to each patient’s medical history.

Dr. Değer also follows patients with heart failure and heart valve disease, using echocardiography to examine cardiac structure and function. For patients with arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, he uses Holter rhythm monitoring to record the heart rhythm over an extended period, and he provides ongoing care for patients who have a pacemaker.

How Dr. Değer works with international patients

Dr. Değer consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as angiography or echocardiography reports, Holter recordings, laboratory results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultations are available for international patients who wish to discuss their case before traveling or as part of follow-up.
