Serkan Cici, MD

Clinical focus

Within the Emergency Service, Dr. Cici sees patients presenting with injuries and acute conditions that require prompt evaluation. Trauma is a central part of his practice. This includes the initial assessment of injured patients, identification of injuries that may need urgent attention and coordination of further care where this is required. He also manages environmental emergencies, a group of conditions that arise from exposure to the surrounding environment rather than from an underlying disease alone.

His areas of expertise include bee stings and tick bites, which may cause local reactions or, in some cases, more significant systemic responses that call for medical evaluation. Drowning and acute hypoxia, in which the body’s tissues receive insufficient oxygen, are also within his clinical focus, as is airway obstruction, where the passage of air to the lungs is partly or completely blocked. In each of these situations, emergency assessment concentrates on securing breathing and circulation, identifying the underlying cause and deciding on the appropriate next steps. Depending on the findings, these steps may include a period of observation, treatment within the Emergency Service or referral to other departments of the hospital for continued care. Because emergency presentations vary considerably from one patient to another, the course of assessment and treatment is determined individually and cannot be predicted in advance.

How Dr. Cici works with international patients

Dr. Cici consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. For planned visits and non-urgent questions, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultation is available for international patients. In a genuine emergency, however, patients should be aware that assessment takes place in person in the Emergency Service, where the immediate clinical situation determines the order and type of care provided.
