Prof. Şükrü Yazar, MD

Prof. Şükrü Yazar, MD is a specialist in Aesthetic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in the Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery unit at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul. Dr. Yazar graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1992 and worked at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine Ibni Sina Hospital from 1992 to 1993. From 1994 to 2001 he trained and worked at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine Hospital, completing his specialization in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2001. During this period he spent time in 1996 at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, and Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury, England, and in 1997 at Canniesburn Hospital, Glasgow. He then worked at İstanbul Memorial Hospital (2001–2002) and at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan (2002–2004). From 2006 to 2008 he was a faculty member at İzzet Baysal University Faculty of Medicine Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, becoming an Associate Professor at Abant İzzet Baysal University Faculty of Medicine in 2007, and in 2008 he worked at Gent University, Gent, Belgium. He holds the Turkish Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Association Proficiency (2007), the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (2008), the Medical Specialization Board in Hand Surgery (2011) and the Medical Specialization Board in Oral, Facial and Maxillofacial Surgery (2012). He was appointed Professor at Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine in 2013. He is a member of the Turkish Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Association, the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Association, the European Association of Plastic Surgeons, the World Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery, the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery, the Turkish Reconstructive Microsurgery Association, the Wound Care and Tissue Repair Association and the Turkish Medical Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Yazar’s practice combines aesthetic plastic surgery with reconstructive surgery, including reconstruction of complex soft tissue and composite defects. A central part of his work is reconstructive microsurgery, and his published work addresses free tissue transfers in pediatric head and neck reconstruction, perforator flaps for composite maxillary defects, free flaps in open calcaneal fractures, onlay bone grafts in head and neck reconstruction and venous augmentation techniques for pedicled flaps.

He also holds board qualifications in hand surgery and in oral, facial and maxillofacial surgery. His publications include functional reconstruction of large soft tissue defects of the forearm and hand using the anterolateral thigh flap. Wound care and tissue repair are further areas of his clinical focus. The suitability of any approach is assessed individually after clinical examination and review of the patient’s history.

Dr. Yazar consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages.
