Assoc. Prof. Suna Yapalı, MD

Assoc. Prof. Suna Yapalı, MD is a gastroenterologist at Acibadem Dr. Sinasi Can (Kadikoy) Hospital in İstanbul, where she works within the Gastroenterology unit. Dr. Yapalı graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2001. From 2002 to 2008 she worked in the Marmara University Faculty of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine, completing her Internal Medicine training there in 2008. She then worked in the Department of Gastroenterology at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital (2008–2009) before joining the Ege University Faculty of Medicine Department of Gastroenterology (2009–2012), where she completed her Gastroenterology training in 2012. From 2012 to 2014 she held a Hepatology Research Fellowship at the University of Michigan, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Ann Arbor, MI. In 2017 she completed training in Advanced Endoscopy and Motility at the Academic Medical Center, Amsterdam, Netherlands. She is a member of the American Gastroenterology Association, the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, the European Association for the Study of Liver Disease, the Turkish Liver Research Association, the Turkish Gastroenterology Association and the National Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Association. Her published work includes articles on the management of chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C in journals such as Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Gastroenterology and Gut.

Clinical focus

A central part of Dr. Yapalı’s practice is the diagnosis and management of inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. She performs endoscopy as part of the assessment and follow-up of digestive conditions. Her hepatology background is reflected in her work on liver diseases, including fatty liver disease and liver failure, as well as diseases of the pancreas and the biliary tract.

Dr. Yapalı also treats hemorrhoids and other anorectal diseases. In each case the approach is guided by the patient’s history, examination findings, laboratory results and imaging, and treatment options are discussed with the patient on that basis.

Dr. Yapalı consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
